| GREENSBORO — Albert (Al) Briscoe, Jr., 58, of Greensboro, died Monday January 30, 2012. Al was born in Pittsburgh and grew up in Baltimore. He was a resident of Detroit for seven years, and moved to Greensboro in 2002. Al was preceded in death by his mother, Lavonia Davis Briscoe, his sister Leontine Moore and his brother Gregory Briscoe, all of Baltimore. Al is survived by his partner of twenty years, John Tomkiel of Greensboro, by his father Albert Briscoe and his siblings Linda Briscoe, Marvin Briscoe, Norman Briscoe, Janet Briscoe, Jackie Briscoe and Betty Briscoe of Baltimore, Lashell McWhorter of Washington DC and Adrienne Briscoe of Orangeburg, SC. He also leaves behind his treasured pet yorkipoos, Seamus and Angus. Al worked for twenty years at Maryland National Bank in Baltimore, and then returned to school and completed his bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (1999), and a M.Ed. in Instructional Technology (2002) from Wayne State University in Detroit. He served as student senate president of the College of Lifelong Learning and was the first CLL student in the ISP program to be inducted into the prestigious David Mackenzie Honor Society. While enrolled in school he worked full-time as a research technician in the center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics at the Wayne State School of Medicine. He worked at UNCG as an Instructional Technology consultant since 2002, and served as Staff Senate president. Faculty and staff knew him for his great sense of humor and infectious laugh. Special thanks are extended to the nursing staff and doctors at Wesley Long Community Hospital for their kindness and dedication during Al's last days. A party celebrating Al's life will be held for friends and family on Saturday, February 4. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on Al's behalf to the Humane Society. |
